Stage Builder

You can create your own stages this time?! No way. REALLY?! With a feature like that, won’t I be able to play this game forever?!

screenshot

Apparently it’s true...!!!

Those who enjoy a little effort may be able to enjoy this stage builder for the rest of their lives.

screenshot

First, start from the initialize setting.

You start by choosing the size of the stage, the background pattern, and the music that will play. Oops! Sorry. For music, you’ll only be able to choose from the songs you have available.

screenshot

This is the edit screen!

Basically, you choose parts from the palette on the side and place them in the field.

The controls vary by controller, but each one can do the following:

  • Flip parts left to right
  • Enlarge or shrink parts
  • Zoom in or out on the screen
  • Swap palettes
  • Erase
...Among other things.

screenshot

Just place terrain however you like. Chuckity-chuckity-CHUCK!

screenshot

Then try it out!

Modify it and try it... Repeat as necessary. Make your own ideal stage!

screenshot

Mmm... That’s amazing.

screenshot

And you can save a name and a comment for the stage.

You can change the music on the save screen. Choose something that matches the mood of your stage.

And I’m happy that this is compatible with SD cards. You don’t have to worry about size, so make as many stages as you like.

Also, if you’ve finished registering someone as both a Wii Friend and a Smash friend, you’ll be able to send custom stages to each other.

Now, for those who hate putting effort into such things, we’ve also prepared something you can enjoy as well.

screenshot

"Submit" ...?

That’s right! You can use your Wi-Fi connection to send stages you’ve made to Nintendo! (However, you can’t submit repeatedly. Maybe just once per day?)

And a stage selected from the entire daily collection will be sent from Nintendo to your Wii. A stage made by someone else will come to you over the Internet once per day!

DUN DUN DUNNNNNN! That’s the shocking truth. This means you’ll be able to experience a new stage every day—the flavor of the day, if you will. However, the plan is for that stage to vanish once one day has passed. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

You can submit in both the Snapshots mode and the Stage Builder mode, allowing everyone to enjoy the creations of others. The fun of sharing is one of the ways that I wanted to take advantage of Wi-Fi for something other than pure battling.

screenshot

Today’s stage has lots of traps...

This is our ideal current plan. We still don’t know the exact service period. And future tuning may result in changes to the spec.

But for now, please look forward to it!

Why Most People Lose At Online Poker

There are THREE CRUCIAL REASONS why most players LOSE money
at online poker.

I've listed them below... keep reading to see if they sound
familiar for YOUR situation.

Reason #1: Not Picking The Right Game Type

OK, so here's my big "aha" for online poker.

It was this "aha" that INSTANTLY transformed my winnings
from "decent" to "tremendous"...

Are you ready?

Here we go:

One of the biggest SECRETS to winning online is to play the
RIGHT GAME TYPE for YOUR UNIQUE STYLE.

Not only that... but you need to ADAPT your strategy for
EACH GAME TYPE you enter.

Let me explain...

When I say "game type", I'm referring to the many variations
of ring games and tournaments. That includes shorthanded
games, "turbo" versions, heads-up matches, and more.

The KEY is that your strategy should NOT be the same for
each game.

For example, the "tight-aggressive squared" method works
great for 10-player Sit and Go's... but you certainly
wouldn't want to use it in a four person ring game!

Or as another example: You wouldn't approach a multi-table
tournament the same way you'd approach a heads-up match...

Every tactic and technique around starting hands,
positioning, and betting is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

Period.

In some game types, BLUFFING is very effective. In other
types you'll hardly EVER want to bluff. The same goes with
slow-playing, check-raising, and so on.

So the question becomes...

How do you know the RIGHT strategy for any given game type?

I'll share my answer with you in a moment, but first let's
take a look at the SECOND REASON why most players lose
online...

Reason #2: Choosing The Wrong Stakes

This is fairly straightforward. Most players UNDERSTAND that
they shouldn't play a game that's too "high stakes" for
them...

But what most players FAIL TO DO is adjust their "poker
approach" ACCORDING to the stakes.

To put this in perspective, let's use baseball as an
example.

Your strategy in a game with a bunch of 14-year olds would
certainly be a lot different than if you were playing
against the WHITE SOX, am I right?

Obviously you'd have to adjust your HITTING, since you'd be
facing a more skilled pitcher. And you'd have to adjust your
DEFENSE... since the hitters would be better.

And so on.

But these are just ADJUSTMENTS.

Now let me ask you: Would you have to change your
FUNDAMENTAL STRATEGY to go from 14-year olds to the "pros"?

The answer is YES.

Because CORE PARTS of the game would be affected.

Not as many "runs" would be scored... the field would be
much bigger... there would be nine innings instead of
seven... and so on.

OK, so now let's relate this back to poker:

In low-stakes games, you can get away with certain things
that you CANNOT get away with in high-stakes games...

You may be able to time all your bluffs when you're on the
button in a low-stakes game, because not everyone is aware
of your positioning.

You might be able to consistently buy pots when the flop
comes rags, because no one has the guts to make a stand
against you.

These are ADJUSTMENTS.

Your FUNDAMENTAL STRATEGY will be different too.

At some stakes, you'll be able to "play around" more with
special traps, feeler bets, and bluffs.

At other stakes, there will be NO ROOM for these tactics
since every pot will be CRUCIAL. (The blinds structure is
also a big determinant in this.)

OK, so the point is things ARE NOT the same for each level
of stakes.

There are clear and distinct differences between low-stakes,
middle-stakes, and high-stakes... and therefore CLEAR
STRATEGIC DIFFERENCES FOR WINNING.

Reason #3: Not Playing At The Right Online Casinos

The third crucial mistake is thinking that every online
casino is the same.

Let me say this as clearly as possible:

ALL CASINOS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL.

And here's why:

A big reason is because the PLAYERS are different from
casino to casino... since the WAY each poker room attracts
its players is different.

The ADVERTISING is different.

Some online casinos give huge bonuses... others do mass
advertising targeted at "beginners"... others try to be
"exclusive" for high-quality players.

And so on...

Get it?

Do you see how this could have a DRAMATIC IMPACT on how the
GAMES will be different?

At one casino you may be playing against a bunch of fresh
"newbies". But the same game type and same stakes at a
DIFFERENT casino might be full of EXPERIENCED players.

This means you might consistently LOSE at $10 Sit and Go's
at one card room... but WIN all the time at another.

Crazy, huh?

I've seen it happen all the time.

You may be LOSING at online poker right now... and the
problem may not be your SKILLS.

It may be that you're simply playing in the WRONG PLACES!

So how do you know what the RIGHT places are exactly?

Unfortunately there's no "one size fits all" answer to
this. But the good news is I've partnered with several
poker rooms to make my eBooks and software "free" when you
sign up for new accounts.

Lots of new strategies and ideas on the way soon.

Your Friend,

Roy Rounder

Guitar Hero Tonight

It's well established in the rock canon that Saturday night's all right for fighting, but Activision thinks it's pretty ideal for waiting as well. Activision announced today that 3,000 stores in the US will be hosting midnight-launch events for the game, which will let Guitar Hero groupies get their hands on the latest installment at 12:01 a.m. Sunday--in other words, late Saturday evening.

As the subtitle implies, Legends of Rock will be the first Guitar Hero game to feature actual musicians in-game, with Guns N' Roses' Slash and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello appearing in boss battles, and Poison lead singer Bret Michaels also making an appearance. The game also adds a multiplayer battle mode, online play, and more to the established series formula.

An Activision rep was unable to say which chains would be hosting the events, but he did say that at least one Best Buy and several GameStops were among the 3,000 locations in question. Those interested in picking up the game at a witching-hour event should call their local retailers.

This weekend, Guitar Hero III will launch on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PlayStation 2. PC and Macintosh versions are due out next month.

Smash Bros. brawling with online replays

As anyone even remotely interested in Super Smash Bros. Brawl probably knows, the game has vacated the once-jam-packed holiday 2007 release window to the now-jam-packed early Q1 2008. However, like a merciless dominatrix, Nintendo continues to whip the game's rabid fan base into a frenzy by announcing oft-requested features for its high-profile brawler.

Today, the publisher updated the game's official Web site with word that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will include online video playback. Gamers will be able to record up to three minutes of footage, and then send the data to those on their Wii Friends lists. Online seems to be a greater emphasis this time out, considering that the publisher officially confirmed last month that gamers will be able to brawl against friends and perfect strangers online.

Mario and his iconic crew will (hopefully) be available February 10, exclusively for the Wii.

Video Games Rock

Is Halo 3 the reason why patrons have stayed away from the movie theater this past month?

According to an article published in Advertising Age, that seems to be the sentiment from many film executives who believe that the blockbuster video game Halo 3 has made a huge dent in their pocketbooks.

Movies which premiered around the same time Halo 3 was release such as "Heartbreak Kid", "The Seeker" and "The Kingdom" grossed far less money than analysts and producers expected.

Research firm Media by Numbers says that ticket receipts for the Oct. 5 weekend alone are down by 27%, the worst October performance since 1999.

Things were a lot more rosy for Microsoft. The company reported that Halo 3 grossed over $300 million in sales in its first week with $170 million of that accumulated in its first day.

A few cases have cast doubt into the Halo 3 theory as well "Tyler Perry's Why did I get Married" and "The Game Plan" have broken out at box office successes despite little coverage and small advertising budgets.

Although the theory's validity still must be tested further before we reach a conclusion, it seems that the movie industry and the games industry have become linked together now more than ever before

Poker Hand Rankings

Even at the highest levels, profitability in poker is largely determined by a player's ability to choose the right starting hands. If you fail in this regard or somehow lose your discipline, it's nearly impossible to recover. Fancy plays and good decisions on later streets cannot overcome early-hand mistakes. If you're throwing money into a pot when you shouldn't, you're going to lose money. There's no way around it. If you find yourself in a stretch where things aren't going especially well, take a step back and make sure your hand selection is all it ought to be. David Grey
